Enjoy the mountains

Wagrain

Wagrain is a typical Austrian village in Salzburger Land and is surrounded by mountains.

Three mountain lifts go up from Wagrain, two of these also operate in the summer. In addition to the mountain lifts, Wasserwelt Wagrain is the village’s attraction; a water park with slides, indoor and outdoor pools, and wellness facilities that is open in both summer and winter.

In the village – and usually on the market square directly at Apartment Yako – activities such as fairs, shooting parades, folk dances, live performances, etc. are organized regularly. There is also a wide variety of restaurants and bars. The après-ski is very good.

Wagrain is the ideal destination to get out during the day and to relax and enjoy in the evening with all that the village has to offer.

Winter

Apartment Yako is located in the heart of Snow Space Salzburg, which is part of the Salzburger Sportwelt with a total of 350  km of slopes. There is an extensive system of modern lifts and 200 km of connected slopes can be reached directly from Apartment Yako.

It is fun for everyone. For beginners there are broad blue pistes and English-speaking ski instructors. And for advanced skiers, there is a wide choice of more challenging sections.

The Absolute park is the place to be for freestyle skiers. This is Austria’s largest snow park with over 100 obstacles; for the real cracks, but there are also routes for novice freestylers and children. In addition to the Absolute Park, there are several fun slopes in the Salzburger Sportwelt.

See the page The 10 most enjoyable slopes in Salzburger Sportwelt for my favorites.

Skiing and snowboarding are not the only winter sports. There is a network with 220 km of cross-country trails. You can go ice skating in Wagrain and you can enjoy sledding in several places.

Summer

In the area, hiking can be done in all possible ways. From walks with a stroller and along a path with all sorts of playing equipment (for young and old) to multi-day hikes through alpine terrain. Many cable cars also run in the summer so that you are quick completely in the mountains.

(E-)mountain biking is very popular around Wagrain. There is an extensive network of trails and a spectacular downhill park. Other mountain activities such as climbing, rafting and canyoning can also be enjoyed in the proximity of Wagrain.

In addition to the many sporting activities, there is plenty to see: castles, caves, gorges, etc. Well-known highlights of Austria, such as Salzburg, Hallstatt, Grossglockner High Alpine Road and the Krimmler waterfalls, are rewarding day trips from Wagrain.
